As a Public Watchdogs member, you are probably one of the most informed and educated people in our community regarding our community’s biggest concern: The 73 scratched and gouged canisters that are located 108 feet away from the mighty Pacific.

With nowhere for that radioactive waste to go, we are still stuck with 3.6 million pounds of radioactive nuclear waste that is deadly for thousands of years.  As a result, the ongoing condition and possible degradation of the damaged nuclear waste canisters is of paramount importance to the public’s safety.

Edison refuses to acknowledge the obvious seismic and tsunami risks, so our community’s vulnerabilities continue to mount. Additionally, emergency response preparations are lacking due to Edison’s denials of the inexorable activities of Mother Nature.

As the California Office of Emergency Services (OES) reminds us, an earthquake can happen at “any minute of any day.”

When all the buildings and domes at San Onofre have vanished, the radioactive threat of those damaged canisters will still remain for you, your family, your investments, and your home.

Since we sent out the info last Thursday regarding Edison’s latest permit violation, we’ve been working with the SONGS Community Engagement Panel t ask questions about this event, (get the Event Report) as well as the recent Marine Corps shelling of highway patrol vehicles near the San Onofre nuclear waste dump.

We look forward to participating in this virtual online meeting with you.
