On January 29, 2012, the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) leaked ionizing radioactive steam into the environment. The owners of SONGS, Southern California Edison, notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission immediately, but waited four days for the radiation to disperse before it notified the media.
As a result, we’ll never really know the full extent of the leak.
