AB305 Petition Form First Name * Last Name * Email Address * Subject line * City * ZIP Code * Message We the undersigned constituents of California demand that the California Assembly’s Committee on <em>Natural Resources</em> <strong>Vote ‘NO’</strong> on Assembly Bill 305 (AB 305) on the grounds that it is unethical to overturn decades of nuclear radiation safety law that prohibits the construction of new nuclear power plants in California. Since 1968, California nuclear power plants have spawned millions of pounds of deadly radioactive waste that is lethal to all human life for at least 25,000 years. This is why a 1976 California law has banned the construction of new nuclear power plants until the radioactive nuclear waste can be removed and stored with no threat to public safety. If enacted, AB 305 will subvert and pervert the intent of California’s nuclear safety laws by granting exemptions for the construction of so-called “<em>Small Modular Reactors</em>,” or SMRs. SMRs produce higher volumes of nuclear waste per unit of energy generated than traditional nuclear power plants. SMRs are also; 1.) easy targets for terrorists; 2). vulnerable to failure, and, 3). flout California’s existing 50-year legal standard prohibiting the construction of any new nuclear power plant. For all the reasons listed here, I declare by signing this petition, that AB 305 must be stopped in its tracks and voted down immediately. <strong> </strong> If you are human, leave this field blank.
